Hannah Pearce
Hi! My name is Hannah Pearce and I am a senior at Sandwich-Middle High School. I am currently committed to Quinnipiac University to get my BS in Radiologic Sciences and my MHS in Advanced Medical Imaging & Leadership, but I have always loved history. I have lived in Sandwich my whole life, and have spent much of my time at the Sandwich Public Library. I also love to walk around downtown, as I find the historically charming buildings so interesting to look at! When I was inducted into the Rho Kappa History Honor Society in my junior year, I was approached by our former advisor, Ms. Evans-Green, about this exciting opportunity to work alongside the archivist at the SPL to create guided walking tours that would run through the library. Since September of this school year, I have spent countless hours researching people and places in Sandwich during the Civil War, both at the Archives and on my own, and have created two walking tours based on real people: Belle Franks, who is a teacher, and William Cobb, who is an apothecary. These tours have been so much fun to create, and have helped me form great connections with so many people that I am so fortunate to have collaborated with on this project. I hope you enjoy these tours as much as I enjoyed making them!
Lily Guarino
Hi! My name is Lily Guarino and I am a Senior at Sandwich Middle High School. I am planning on attending Worcester State University in the fall of 2025 to get my BS and MS in Occupational Therapy. Although I am attending school for health science, I have always been interested in history and learning about the past. I have grown up and lived in Sandwich my whole life. Some of my favorite spots are the restaurants and shops downtown, going to East Sandwich Beach, and the Sandwich Canal. I have always been interested in downtown Sandwich particularly and the history behind all the buildings. Growing up in school, we always learned about Sandwich during the colonial times. So my foundation and knowledge of the town is from it's early beginnings. Wanting to learn more about the town through the years sparked my interest to center our project during the Civil War. I have always been interested in the Civil War and wanted to expand my knowledge on how our town helped out during war times. It has been my pleasure to work alongside the Sandwich Public Library during the duration of the project. I hope you enjoy the walking tours around beautiful downtown Sandwich.
