LittleBits Logic Gates

Goal:

Learn how computers use electricity to encode & transmit information

Credit for activity: https://littlebits.cc/lessons/introduction-to-logic

Watch the following video on logic gates

Logic Gates Video

What are LittleBits?

Power (Blue): Power Bits, plus a power supply, run power through your circuit

Wire (Orange): Wire Bits connect to other systems and let you build circuits in new directions (these are your logic gates)

Input (Pink): Input Bits accept input from you or the environment and send signals that affect the Bits that follow

Output (Green): Output Bits do something- light up, buzz, move...

With your knowledge of logic gates and Littlebits, you are going to build five different circuits using the 5 logic gates (AND, OR, NAND, NOR, XOR) and complete the truth table worksheet.

Step 1

Create your first circuit using the AND gate. It should look like this:

Step 2

Match the AND gate with the correct description on the "Truth Table" works sheet

Step 3

Complete the truth table using 1 and 0. 1 for on, and 0 for off

Step 4

Repeat steps 1-3 for the 4 remaining logic gates (OR, NAND, NOR, XOR)

Step 5

Complete the following challenge:

Create an alarm clock that goes off with the sun, but only works when you are present.

Create a challenge that utilizes at least one of the logic gates. Write this challenge on an index card.
