Understanding the assessment evaluation timeline is essential to ensure that assessments are graded efficiently and learners receive timely feedback. This timeline ensures smooth coordination between submission deadlines, grading windows, and feedback delivery, fostering a structured learning experience for learners. As a grader, your role is pivotal in keeping this timeline on track. Below is a detailed breakdown of how the process will work.
Following is a visual of what this timeline looks like. Please review it before diving into the details below.
You can download the timeline shown above by clicking the button below and using the download option from the menu.
The assessment and grading timeline details are shared in the interactives below. Click through each stage to learn more about what it entails, what is relevant in them for you, and how they fit into the overall timeline.
There are 4 assessment submission windows for each course in the term; Week 4, Week 8, Week 11, and Week 15. These are weeks when the assessments become available for learners to submit. In each of these weeks, the assessments are made available at the start of the week on Monday at 0:01 AM GMT. Sometimes these are also released earlier with the previous week's content, however, the expectation is that learners will work on them during the week that they're due.
Learners will submit them as PDF files by 11:59 PM GMT on Monday of the following week. Each assessment corresponds with the content of the preceding few weeks. For example:
The Week 4 Assessment will be available to learners at the start of Week 4 on Monday at 0:01 AM GMT.
The submission deadline for this assessment will be Monday of Week 5, by 11:59 PM GMT.
Key Takeaway for Graders:
You can begin grading only after the Monday deadline passes. Learners may still be submitting or resubmitting their assessments before that.
Ensure you follow the timeline to complete the evaluations promptly.
Once the submission deadline closes, grading begins on Tuesday and continues through Sunday of the same week. This gives you one week to complete all evaluations and provide feedback. Scores and feedback will be released to learners on Monday of the next week.
In our example, for the Week 4 Assessment, grading will begin on Tuesday of Week 5 and must be completed by Sunday of Week 5. Learners will receive their feedback and scores by Monday of Week 6.
Key Takeaway for Graders:
It is crucial to complete all evaluations during this window to maintain the course schedule.
This timely feedback helps learners stay on track with their learning goals, and make improvements for another submission, of their future assessments.
If learners miss the first deadline, are dissatisfied with their initial score, or want to improve their submissions based on feedback, they have the option to submit during the grace period.
The grace period begins Monday at 0:01 AM GMT (right after the initial scores are released) and ends the following Monday at 11:59 PM GMT.
For example, the grace period for the Week 4 Assessment will open on Monday of Week 6 at 0:01 AM GMT and close on Monday of Week 7 at 11:59 PM GMT.
If learners submit or resubmit their assessments during the grace period, these submissions will enter a new grading cycle. Grading for these submissions begins on the Tuesday after the grace period ends and must be completed by Sunday of the same week. Feedback and scores will be released the following Monday.
So for our example, if a learner submits their Week 4 Assessment during the grace period (which ends on Monday of Week 7), your grading will begin on Tuesday of Week 7 and must be completed by Sunday of Week 7. The learner will receive their feedback and score by Monday of Week 8.
The following graphics summarize the timeline you just covered above. Click through the arrows to review the content, if you feel there is still something that is unclear.
Timely Evaluations: Sticking to the grading windows ensures that learners receive their feedback on time.
Consistency: Both initial and grace period submissions must be evaluated with the same level of attention and fairness.
Planning Ahead: Be mindful of the timelines to balance your workload, especially if there are multiple assessments to grade.
By adhering to this timeline, you will play a key role in maintaining the structure and flow of the Pathway Program, ensuring that learners get the feedback they need to grow and improve. Thank you for your diligence and commitment to helping ALX learners succeed!
