Begin exploring! Research college campuses, majors, future careers and degree types! This helps students have all their options before they are in the full process of applying.
Choose courses that challenge you and show Colleges you're up for the rigor. Additionally, this is a great time to get involved in extracurricular activities, take leadership roles and prepare yourself to be the best candidate!
This step doesn't happen until 12th grade. This is when you actually apply, write personal statements, ask for letters of recommendation, and submit necessary documents.

Most students think once they accept their seat, the process is done. There are many steps over summer you need to complete to ensure your enrollment is all good to go.
Madison Counselors provide various opportunities for students to receive assistance through the process. Here are some of the ways students can access their counselor:
Counselors present in 12th grade Economics/Government classes to set up financial aid accounts (FSA ID or California Dream Act Accounts) and to review the college application process.
In the months of Oct-Nov, students can attend lunch workshops in room 1003 to apply to College. These take place 3 times a week during this time.
Students can request an appointment with their counselor if one-on-one help is needed.
In the months of Jan-Feb, students can attend lunch workshops in room 1003 to apply for Financial Aid. These take place 3 times a week during that time.
Cal-SOAP, a local non-profit organization, visits Madison to provide support in the process as well.
