Choice Enrollment Priority Window for 2026-2027
Choice Enrollment Priority Window for 2026-2027
Apply online at: sandiegounified.org/choiceapplication
Available in English and Spanish
Parents may select up to three (3) schools (TK*–12)
Priority applications submitted Sept. 22–Nov. 15, 2025 are randomized; applying early does not increase priority. It is not a first come, first served process.
Please review the Choice Enrollment website for application information, including special education, new to district, recently moved, and more.
Who Needs a Choice Application?
Younger siblings of Choice students
TK overflow pupils wanting to remain for kindergarten
Students who moved outside 92122 ZIP code but want to remain enrolled
Note: if your address resides outside of the San Diego School District an Application for Interdistrict Attendance Permit is required in addition to the Choice Application
Children of district employees living outside boundaries
Early Learning students not at their school of residence
Magnet students moving to the next level outside their current cluster
Who Does Not Need a Choice Application?
Resident students (live inside 92122 ZIP code)
Current Choice students who have moved, but are still within the San Diego Unified School District boundaries
Choice students with valid Interdistrict Permits articulating within a feeder pattern (example: Spreckels Elementary -> Standley Middle -> University City High School)
Choice students articulating to the next level within their high school cluster (Example: Enrolled at UC via Choice in 9th grade -> continuing at UC for 10th grade).
At some schools there is not enough space available for every student who applies. In order to assign these seats fairly, applications submitted during the Choice window are given a "priority," and all applications received during this time period are randomly sorted in order of "priority" placement on grade-level lists. The following is the order for students that must apply. The priorities are ranked 1 through 10, with priority 1 receiving the highest placement on the enrollment list for each school, followed by priority 2 and then 3, 4, 5, 6, 7. 8, 9, and 10, in that order. Magnet Themes and Program Continuity
NO PRIORITY
No priority is given for legacy applicants, for proximity to parent's work location or child care, for concurrent enrollment of relatives, or for life circumstances such as illness, death in family, divorce, etc.
Transportation
Please note; being accepted to UC via the Choice Application does not guarantee transportation. Transportation in SDUSD is limited. Only district residents who are accepted into a dedicated Magnet or VEEP (Voluntary Enrollment Exchange Program) program are qualified riders, and distance out and minimum ridership rules apply. No transportation is available to pupils enrolled via Choice (includes in district and out of district residents). There is no "space available" transportation offered to any enrollees. More information here: VEEP/Choice Enrollment Policies . For additional information about VEEP and transportation options for UC please contact Norma Smith at nsmith@sandi.net.
