Developmentally Appropriate Toileting Practices Toolkit

Supporting Our Youngest Learners

We are looking forward to welcoming all students into our early learning classrooms!

The purpose of this toolkit is to provide both families and school staff with best practices and resources to better support our earliest learners on their journey to toileting independence.

The toileting journey is different for every child. In the United States, most children start their toileting journey between the ages of two and three years and reach full independence by age four. However, for other children, they may start sooner or finish later. Toilet learning is a complex process and we identify that every child, family, and situation is unique.
