SCHOOL INFO & SHOUT OUTS

Clairemonster Robotics:
First Robotics Competition
& Bay Park Elementary Open House

During the weekend of March 26th the Clairemonster Robotics Team attended the 2024 FIRST Robotics Competition San Diego Regional at UCSD. They earned their highest-ever power ranking finish and ranked 19th place out of 51 teams by the end of the tournament. Throughout the competition, the Clairemonster robot and team excelled with 8 separate drivers bringing in ranking points for team 5474. In addition to racking up points, the team was able to make connections with all sorts of other FRC teams and participants throughout the competition which only made the experience all the more rewarding.  The team is very proud of accomplishing such a high-placing result, especially with such a young team. With the contributions of first-year advisor Ms. Hao and the hard work and dedication of all members of the team, the Clairemonsters are confident that they will be back next year better than ever with a drive to reach even higher heights than were reached this season.

Just last week, the Clairemonsters attended Bay Park Elementary School's open house to present what their program is all about and encourage students to attend Clairemont High School in the future. They were accompanied by the Marston Middle School robotics team and they worked together to teach students and parents what our school's engineering and robotics programs are all about. This event was a huge success as there was a lot of enthusiasm surrounding the robotics table as elementary students were able to interact and play games with robots. After this event, the Clairemonsters aspire to build strong connections at the middle school level which include mentoring and possibly assisting in starting teams at the elementary level.

Project Update:
Morena South & Middle Pipelines

On Sunday night, April 28, the contractor will set up additional traffic control on Clairemont Dr. that will expand the work zone up to the Ute Dr. intersection. For safety reasons, this expanded work zone will be placing the intersection traffic signal on flashing red until it is deemed safe by traffic engineers to return to normal use of the traffic signal.

Then on Monday, April 29, the contractor will begin working north on Clairemont Dr. towards the Ute Dr. intersection. While this happens, one lane of vehicle traffic will be maintained in each direction and the drop off and pickup lane used by Marston Middle School on Clairemont Dr. will be maintained open. Please see the attached graphic that represents this traffic control setup. A Resident Engineer will be on site during the first few days of the new traffic control setup to observe arrival and dismissal times and help minimize any impacts. Working hours are between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to excavate and install pipeline in the road, and between 4:30 p.m. and 11 p.m. to weld the pipeline.

We're estimating that it will take approximately 2 weeks for the work to reach the Ute Dr. intersection after the work starts on April 29. Work within the Ute Dr. intersection will require traffic closures during a weekend in order to accommodate construction and traffic. These plans are still under development, but once they are finalized I will provide another update to you all.
