Coinciding with Women's Equality Day on Tuesday, Aug. 26, Clairemont High School hosted its first Women's Equality Day leadership panel featuring six women executives from the San Diego Unified School District. The event, organized by student leader Kelly Loomis, brought together district officials to examine gender stereotypes, discuss women's equality, and promote inclusion within the campus community.
The event launches a planned guest speaker series throughout the academic year focused on celebrating cultural differences and fostering dialogue about diversity and inclusion.
"As a woman who has dedicated her life to education and as the first Latina to serve as superintendent of this district, I understand deeply the importance of creating spaces where all voices are heard and valued," said Dr. Fabi Bagula, Superintendent of San Diego Unified School District. "When our students see women in leadership positions addressing the challenges and opportunities that affect their futures, we are living our mission to ensure all students graduate with the skills, motivation, curiosity and resilience to lead and participate in the society of tomorrow. This panel represents the very best of what happens when we center student voices and empower them to drive meaningful change."
The initiative was spearheaded by Loomis, Clairemont High School's ASB Commissioner of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, who envisioned the event as a way to enhance inclusion within the campus community.
"As the new ASB Commissioner of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, I wanted to create opportunities for our school community to have important conversations about equality in a respectful way," said Loomis. "I believe when we celebrate what makes each of us unique and hear from people in leadership roles, it brings our students and staff together and makes our school a better place for everyone."
The panel featured:
Dr. Fabi Bagula, Superintendent, San Diego Unified School District
Dr. Erin Richison, Senior Executive Director of School Networks, San Diego Unified School District
Nicole DeWitt, Deputy Superintendent, San Diego Unified School District
Dr. Angelia Watkins, Executive Director of Special Education, San Diego Unified School District
Kristine Morshead, Senior Executive Director of Human Resources, San Diego Unified School District
Karly Johnstone, Principal, Clairemont High School, San Diego Unified School District
The start of every school year is an opportunity to continue an existing club or start a new club.
Clubs are a great way to gather people with common interests and goals.
All clubs must be approved by ASB governing board members and administration.
Here is what you will need:
1 - A name, a common interest that brings people together (i.e. chess club, drama club, ping pong).
2 - A certificated faculty member (teacher) on campus to be your advisor.
3 - Club officers: President, VP, Treasurer, and Secretary.
4 - An established time & meeting place.
All clubs must complete Club Packet paperwork at the beginning of the academic year to be an official CHS club. Clubs are recognized on the first day of the following academic school year.
Make a copy, fill it out digitally or printed, and sign it
Turn paper packet into the ASB mailbox in the front office.
Want to get involved in student government? Be a Class Officer!
Pick up a packet at the ASB Room (114)

A student is considered on the Attendance Loss of Privilege (LOP) if they accumulate up to or or over 60 minutes of unexcused instructional time.
To recover unexcused instructional time students can attend Instructional Recovery Time (IRT), parents can call in excused absences or tardies, and staff can correct an error.
Use the website to learn why the mascot change is being made and the SD Unified process that Clairemont HS will go through to choose a new mascot.
CHS will need to change our mascot to adhere with CA Assembly Bill 3074. This process will take place via a number of Town Hall meetings anchored by a 10-person Naming Committee; two (2) of whom will be community members/parents and two (2) of whom will be current CHS students in grades 9-11 (you can find more information about this on our webpage: CHS Mascot Rebranding Webpage).
If you would like to submit your name to potentially be part of the Naming Committee, please complete appropriate form by Sept 2nd (selections will be made via a random draw):
Please note - in order to be eligible for the Committee, you must be able to attend all Town Hall meetings; any CHS community member is eligible to attend the Town Hall meetings and be part of the process even if not on the Naming Committee.

Soledad Gomez was born in Oaxaca, Mexico and Raised in Vista, California. Coach Gomez's journey as a soccer athlete started at the age of 10 at a Mexican league by the name of "Tiffany Soccer Club". She has been playing competitive soccer for 26+ years now.
Coach Gomez was a four-year varsity starter at Rancho Buena Vista HS and completed four years at San Diego State, during which they won the Mountain West three years in a row, making it to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen in 2012 and NCAA final 32 in 2013. She graduated as a scholar athlete with a Criminology degree in 2014.
During summers, Coach Gomez joined the WPSL San Diego Sea Lions, in which she played from 2013-2018. In 2019, San Diego Strykers came into existence after San Diego Sea Lions were no longer active, and she was able to play with the Strykers from 2019-2023. Due to knee injuries, her soccer career came to a halt and she began a journey of healing.
After dedicating three years to healing, through compassion, positive mindset and most importantly self-love, Coach Gomez knew her calling was to uplift and empower our new generation of athletes to not only become amazing soccer athletes, but also become the best versions of themselves. Coach believes we are here to uplift each other and be successful together. Till this day, she continues to play and stay connected to our amazing soccer community by serving our future athletes.
If we want success, we are willing to put in the work in three areas: Mind, Body, and Spirit, to achieve our goals as individuals as well as a collective team. Coach Gomez is here to raise a new generation of leaders on and off the field by using positive sports psychology known as mental performance while helping manage physical and spiritual performance.
