As a freshman, he was named JV Team MVP and Offensive Player of the Year, setting the tone for an outstanding high school career built on hard work and consistency.
Beyond statistics and awards, Tyler’s sportsmanship stands out. During games, he consistently helps up opposing players when they are down and encourages his teammates to maintain a positive attitude, even in challenging situations. He demonstrates respect for teammates, opponents, and officials, setting an example for younger athletes through his humility and team-first mindset. Tyler embodies the integrity, leadership, and character expected of a CIF Student-Athlete of the Year."
The 2025 field hockey season was an outstanding success and a true testament to the dedication and determination of our student-athletes. As a coach, I was continually impressed by the hard work, commitment, and positive attitude our players displayed throughout the year.
This season, we were fortunate to have a strong blend of experienced upperclassmen and talented younger players. The leadership and example set by our veteran athletes played a crucial role in helping our newer players develop and thrive. Their teamwork and unity were evident both on and off the field.
Finishing 12-7 and reaching the quarterfinals of the Division I CIF playoffs for the second consecutive year was a remarkable achievement, reflecting the continued growth and strength of our program. In addition, our junior varsity team’s development and success further highlight the bright future of field hockey within our school community.
While I eagerly look forward to the seasons ahead, it will be difficult to say goodbye to our seniors. Their hard work, leadership, and character have left a lasting mark on our program, and they will be greatly missed.
Coach Bello
The 2025 Girls Volleyball season started off with pre-season matches against some great opponents that helped us to refine our play and line-ups. During tournament season, all three levels earned some hardware! The Freshman and Varsity teams won 2nd and 1st place in their respective divisions. At the Monte Vista tournaments, each level won - Frosh with a 1st place, JV with a 2nd place and Varsity with a 3rd place win. Varsity also got a 2nd place win in the Silver Division at the Bucs Bash Tourney.
All this hard work paid off when we hit league play! The teams in our league this season provided great competition and we saw many long and close matches. Varsity ended the season as the 3rd seed in our CIF Division. We won the first round playoff match at a home game against Escondido Adventist High School. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to beat Montgomery High School in the quarterfinal match. We greatly appreciate the leadership our two seniors - Yanai Rose and Blaney Felice - provided this season and will definitely miss them. The future of the girls volleyball program is looking bright and we look forward to continue to build on this season’s successes.
Coach Erin
The Lady Chieftains wrapped up an incredible 2025 flag football season, finishing the regular season with an impressive 14–4 record and securing 2nd place in the Eastern League with a record of 8-2. This year brought new challenges, including a move upward from DIV 4 to DIV 3, and an new group of seasoned flag football freshman. The team rose to the occasion with determination, grit, and undeniable growth and notoriety in the section.
Their strong seasonal performance earned them a spot in DIV 2 CIF playoffs, where they opened with a thrilling matchup against Del Norte. The Chieftains battled their way to a hard-fought victory, punching their ticket to the quarterfinals against Imperial. In a nail-biter that went into overtime, the Chieftains ultimately came up short—but not without showcasing their heart, resilience, and championship mindset. Somethings that they will carry into the upcoming seasons to come.
This year, the team as earned notable recognition in the rankings with a season ranking of #16 in San Diego, #18 in the San Diego Section, and #137 in California.
In addition, several Chieftains stood out this season with top-10 rankings in various stats across league:
Alexis Benjamin ('26), Camryn Walton ('26), Natalie Hovey ('26), Abby Mora ('28), Megan Castel ('28), Kacey Otterman ('29), Harper Gillich ('29)
Each of these athletes, and those not mentioned, contributed to the team’s overall success this 2025 Fall season.
For a sport that is 3 years old (CIF) and from a roster that started with just under a dozen players (the team now has 16 dedicated athletes), the program continues to grow alongside the rising popularity of girls flag football. With stronger performances, deeper talent, and a culture of excellence, the future is brighter than ever for the Lady Chieftains - and the best is still ahead. Until next season!
The year started out tough, due to our top 5 runners from 2024 choosing other sports or deciding not to run this year.
With that said the team only had 2 returning sophomores and the rest were freshman.
The year started out well with 3 of our runners medaling in the Frosh - Soph race at the Canyon Crest Invitational in August and strong running in the Ian Cumming Invite Labor day weekend.
The league meets proved challenging for the team, as a few injuries and the inability of our pack to move up in races, resulting in back of the pack finishes.
The team was able to change that at league championships with 7 of our 9 runners setting season PR's. Ethan Kahan had a great race (21:18 for 5k) placing first on the team followed by Hector Rivera and the rest of the team. Sawyer Baffico was the fastest freshman with a 22:10. Shelby Jennings ran a season's best of 26:06 and placed 5th overall in the JV girls race taking home a league championship medal.
CIF finals were muddy and rainy, which seemed to impact our team. Ethan was our first runner in 19:53 for 3 miles followed by Jesus Navarrete in 21:48. Unfortunately, without a finish in the top 80 the team scoring was not what we had hoped for.
We look forward to all runners returning next year and getting more recruits, so the boys' and girls' team will be more competitive.
