If your child will be absent, you can always call the main office to let us know. Another quick and easy option is to email Ms. Kristen at kbeatty@sandi.net
We work to update attendance by 10:30 each morning. Please keep in mind that if you only notify the teacher, the office may not get the message and you could still receive the automatic absence call.
Families are asked to log in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal to review the 2025-26 Family Resource Guide (formerly Facts for Parents). Please complete the one-question confirmation form and the Universal Form.
Starting Friday, September 19th families need to complete the form.
Completing these required forms ensures your child can fully participate in classroom and school activities, including media coverage or opportunities for their work to be showcased.
Need support with Parent Portal? Visit the Parent Portal resource webpage or contact our school office.
California changed its school funding model over 10 years ago by adopting the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF). Under this system:
Basic Aid Districts: A small percentage of districts (like some parts of San Diego) are extremely affluent and receive basic aid, not participating in LCFF
LCFF Districts: The vast majority of districts, including San Diego Unified, are funded based on:
Number of students enrolled
Daily attendance rates
Different funding rates for elementary, middle, and high school levels
Beyond core funding, districts receive additional money through supplemental and concentration funds based on the number of students who are:
English learners
Homeless or foster youth
Eligible for free and reduced lunch (most important for funding)
San Diego Unified receives over $150 million annually in supplemental and concentration funds based on student income eligibility. This funding pays for:
Teaching positions
Classified positions
Software and technology
Training programs
Safety measures
Counselors
Field trips
Programs and services
Once a district reaches the 55% threshold for unduplicated pupil count (students qualifying for services), every additional qualifying application generates approximately $8,500 per student. San Diego Unified consistently exceeds this 55% threshold, making each form extremely valuable.
Last year's success: The district's improved LCFF collection process resulted in an additional $10 million in annual revenue.
Since California now provides free meals to all students, the traditional free and reduced lunch application became obsolete. The state gave districts the option to use household income forms (LCFF forms) instead, which serve the same funding qualification purpose.
This past week, Mrs. Wood met with students in grades 1–5 to review our BPE Expectations. She shared important reminders about everything from behavior expectations to cell phone policies. We’d like to share the slides with families so you can review them together at home. Be sure to ask your Stingray what they remember from the presentation! Expectation Slideshow
Dear Families,
To keep our campus safe and running smoothly, we ask for your partnership with arrival and dismissal routines:
Pick-Up & Supervision: If you are picking up your child on campus before dismissal, please wait outside at designated buildings for your child. Once your child is dismissed into your care, they must stay with you and be supervised at all times.
Closed Areas on Campus: The playground, play structures, grassy areas, library, and other common spaces are closed before and after school unless your child is enrolled in an after-school program. Our staff cannot provide supervision in these areas, and we need to ensure the safety of all students and staff.
Student Behavior Expectations: Students should not be play fighting, putting hands on one another, or running around campus. Children are expected to keep their hands to themselves, walk calmly, and remain in their designated areas (such as standing with their class line before the start of school).
Areas Outside the School: After dismissal, we are seeing children unsupervised or far from their parents on the grassy areas, handrails, poles, embankments, and exterior steps around school. Students have also been climbing trees and playing on slopes. This is not safe or acceptable. Please move play to a park or other safe location off school grounds.
Morning Reminders: Before school begins, children and adults should not be playing on the structures, running on murals, or gathering in areas not designated for waiting. If you are on campus, please help us by being mindful and modeling school expectations in all shared spaces.
We truly value keeping an open campus for arrival and dismissal, but to continue this practice, we need everyone’s cooperation. When families linger or allow children to play in restricted areas, it creates safety and supervision challenges for our staff.
Thank you for supporting us in keeping Bay Park a safe and welcoming place for all.
For those planners out there...Here is the 2025/2026 Community Year at a Glance. We are still working on some dates, and those are highlighted.
The purpose of the Clairemont Community of Schools Committee is to assemble Clairemont Cluster staff, parents and community members to discuss information that will ultimately improve the Cluster’s programs and presence in the Community. Watch the yearly calendar for meet times and dates.
Clairemont Community of Schools Website
The following information is about the status of Clairemont High School's mascot. To ensure they are in compliance with Assembly Bill 3074, and in partnership with local tribal leaders (see their letter), CHS will soon begin the process of changing the Chieftain mascot to another mascot. It is important to point out that the name of the school, Clairemont High School, will remain the same, as will their colors of orange and blue. Should you want more information about this, the Town Hall Meetings that will be held to select the new mascot, or to submit an idea or possibly be part of the Naming Committee, please see the CHS Mascot Rebranding Webpage.
The segment of Denver Street between Jellet Street and Clairemont Drive will be closed through the end of next week, and the segment of Denver Street from Ingulf Street to Clairemont Drive will be closed through early September to complete pipeline installation. A detour has been established. Please see the map for detailed detour information.
We urge your students, faculty and staff to exercise extreme caution when walking, driving and biking near construction zones, and to allow extra time for travel during peak traffic hours.
New afterschool programs will start in the next few weeks. Click here for the PeachJar link for programs that will run after school.
