What is the State Seal of Civic Engagement?
In September of 2020, the State of California put forth criteria and guidance for high school juniors and seniors who have demonstrated "excellence in civics education and participation, and an understanding of the United States Constitution, the California Constitution, and the democratic system of government" to earn the The State Seal of Civic Engagement (source). Students who meet the criteria will receive a special Seal of Civic Engagement on their high school diploma as a symbol of commitment and accomplishment. You can use the tabs on this website OR click the following links to learn more about the criteria to earn the Seal of Civic Engagement and to submit your Seal of Civic Engagement Application.

Select how you will satisfy the criteria. Note, if you choose to participate in the Civics Showcase, you can satisfy criteria 3-5 through your participation. Also note the deadline for registration is April 9th, 2024. If you do not wish to participate in the Showcase, you will select a different option for criteria 3-5.
Gather your evidence for each criterion.
Submit your criteria using the Seal of Civic Engagement Application by May 9th, 2024.
Important Dates & Deadlines for 2023-2024
The 2024 Civics Showcase will be held on Tuesday, April, 30th from 3:30-5:30 pm.
To Enroll in the 2024 Civic Showcase, please and sign up by Tuesday, April 9th, 2024. Sign-Up Form!
You will be notified of your time slot for participation by Tuesday, April, 16th 2024.
Once you have gathered all evidence for the Seal of Civic Engagement from Criteria 1-5, you need to complete the final Seal of Civic Engagement Application. The 2023-2024 Seal of Civic Engagement application is due by: May 9th, 2024.
