1.4 Students compare and contrast everyday life in different times and places around the world and recognize that some aspects of people, places, and things change over time while others stay the same.
Examine the structure of schools and communities in the past.
Study transportation methods of earlier days.
Recognize similarities and differences of earlier generations in such areas as work (inside and outside the home), dress, manners, stories, games, and festivals, drawing from biographies, oral histories, and folklore.
How is our life different from those who lived in the past, and how is it the same?
How are schools from long ago the same as today? How are they different?
Learning Target:
Evidence of Learning: Children will write an informative/explanatory text about how schools in the past were the same yet different from schools today, supplying details and evidence from multiple sources.
Description: With a focus on transportation changes, students learn how the methods of the past and present rely on ecosystem goods and services provided by natural systems.
Content: Students compare and contrast everyday life in different times and places around the world and recognize that some aspects of people, places, and things change over time while others stay the same (HSS Standard 1.4). Study transportation methods of earlier days (HSS Standard 1.4.2).
