Syllabus
Kindergarten
In accordance with CA State standards, students will:-
Identify the elements of art in artworks, everyday objects, and nature and use them to create art.
Utilize lines to draw and create shapes; name and use basic geometric shapes in art; Spot and use the primary colors in art.
Develop sculptural forms by assembling a variety of materials.
Learn and utilize vocabulary pertaining to art.
Produce artwork based on principles of design and pattern.
Develop fine motor skills by using a variety of art materials such as crayons, scissors, paint brushes to name a few.
Complete various artworks individually and collaboratively when possible.
Observe art created by various cultures and artists from around the world and utilize it in individual artwork.
Describe what they see in an artwork.
Create and respond to art in a responsible and respectful manner, use materials appropriately and safely.
Critique and appreciate the works of peers.
Put away tools and materials when done.
Grade 1
In accordance with CA State standards, students will:-
Identify artistic media
Expand ability to use the elements of art - describe types of lines, find basic geometric shapes and forms in the world.
Recognize primary and secondary colors and discuss how color relates to feelings and moods.
Learn, utilize and expand vocabulary pertaining to art.
Observe art from cultures and master artists.
Compare artwork by observing the similarities and differences.
Create and respond to art in a responsible and respectful manner, use materials appropriately and safely.
Critique and appreciate the works of peers.
Put away tools and materials when done.
Grade 2
In accordance with CA State standards, students will:-
Recognize and use horizontal, vertical, diagonal lines
Expand use of colors, such as mixing primary colors to secondary colors, and understanding how a color wheel works.
Understand and identify textural differences.
Identify and create examples of pattern and movement.
Expand skills and knowledge in additive and subtractive sculpture: develop sculptural form by integrating different media such as assemblage, clay, paper.
Expand a variety of art materials: experience form through manipulation of a variety of media.
Observe art made by other cultures and master artists.
Create and respond to art in a responsible and respectful manner, use materials appropriately and safely.
Critique and appreciate the works of peers.
Put away tools and materials when done.
Grade 3
In accordance with CA State standards, students will:-
Recognize and learn to use contour line drawing, positive and negative shapes, and color scheme
Identify and use foreground, middleground, and background.
Add details to artwork by using elements of art.
Experiment further with primary and secondary colors and color value. Using complementary colors in artwork.
Use the horizon line and overlapping shapes to create an illusion of space.
Balance (symmetrical and asymmetrical), unity, movement, proportion,contrast, variety, and pattern
Experience art made by various cultures and master artists: learn about cultural contrast.
Expand ability to use a variety of art materials and tools, and practice proper maintenance.v n
Grade 4
In accordance with CA State standards, students will:-
Recognize and learn to use contour line drawing, positive/negative space, form, value and color in two and three dimensional art.
Expand ability to use the principles of art.
Identify three-dimensional forms such as cubes, spheres, and cones including origin of light source by using value.
Explain basic perspective using foreground, middle ground, and background.
Observe art made by various cultures and master artists and sculptors.
Expand ability to use a variety of art materials and tools, and practice proper maintenance.
Grade 5
In accordance with CA State standards, students will:-
Expand knowledge of the color wheel, hue placement and mixing.
Further develop contour drawing, eye/hand coordination, and drawing by observation, imagination and from memory.
Understand viewpoints, such as "bird's eye" (something depicted as if from a very high vantage point) and "worm's eye" (something depicted as if from a very low vantage point).
Identify genres such as portrait, still life, and landscape; and media such as marble, paint, photography, wood, etc.
Students concentrate on diverse artists; learn the artist's basic background, anecdotal details, and how they express ideas and feelings; recognize and learn to use different ways artists get their ideas (thumbnails, brainstorming, rough sketch, reference, imagination, sketching from life).
Continue to make connections between art and other disciplines.
