TARDINESS
When a student is tardy, several things occur:
Learning time is lost. Students cannot benefit from a lesson if they are not there.
Teaching time is lost. The teacher must shorten or eliminate some classroom instruction to help the tardy student catch up.
Classes are disrupted. A student entering the classroom in the middle of a lesson often interferes with the teacher or other students, making it necessary to re-teach all or part of the lesson.
Paperwork is increased. Attendance records must be corrected and notices sent to teachers indicating that the tardy student has been admitted and the records corrected.
As you can see, tardiness creates considerable difficulty for all concerned – including the child. Therefore, we ask your assistance in ensuring that your child reports promptly and punctually to school each day.
A NOTE TO PARENTS:
Please talk to your students about your plans for getting to school on time. If your child likes to stay up late, ensure they go to bed at a decent hour. If you live far away, please give yourself some grace time for unexpected traffic or delays. We understand there are circumstances that sometimes prevent us from getting our students to school on time, but if you need additional help or resources, PLEASE reach out to Ms. Rachel, the School Counselor, for support. I'd love to PARTNER with you to ensure your student is getting the entire school experience they deserve.
ABSENCES
Research has shown that attendance is strongly linked to student achievement. Therefore, it is imperative that you make the necessary arrangements to ensure that your child has good attendance.
In addition, we also want to remind you that excessive absences/tardies can lead to a possible SARB (School Attendance Review Board) referral. A referral from SARB can lead to consequences from law enforcement, including a monetary fine or mandatory home visit. We strongly encourage you to make a consistent effort to help your child succeed in school.
Please make sure if your child is absent, you call the Attendance Line so the attendance clerk may mark down the reasoning for your child’s absence. Your teacher may not do this for you. Students whose parents/guardians do not call in are marked unexcused, or TRUANT.
