The mission of the Kolam project is to get elementary school students involved in the creation of a single tile inspired by the traditional art form of Kolam and creating a collaborative installation at San Diego Unified School District.
San Diego Unified School District's Kolam project was inspired by the 1800 Kolam installation on inauguration day near Capitol Hill in January 2021. You can read more about it at https://www.2021kolam.com
Our goal was to create a collaborative Kolam installation by bringing together art from the elementary students in SDUSD. Students were given a 10"x10" paper plate (tile), grade level lessons were created integrating visual art with math and students created individual pieces that were put together to create an installation bringing this ancient art form from across the world to life.
