Aspen Challenge: Resilience Award
On Wednesday May 1st, Hoover's Aspen Challenge team presented their proposed solution: M.I.N.D. (Mental Illness Notice and Disrupt); Shaping a brighter future: a digital beacon for youth mental health. While they didn't place in the Top Three, Hoover won the Resilience Award! Congratulations to all of our student participants and their coaches, Ms. Towers & Mr. Wetzel! Reminder, you can access some of their mental health resources here! They offer guided meditation, journaling prompts, mental health resources, and more!
Spread the Word Campaign
Thank you Cardinals for coming out this week at lunch and making ALL students feel seen, heard, and included. We wrapped up our Spread the Word Campaign with several hundred pledges from students and staff, lots of student engagement, and smiles. If you are interested in joining Circle of Friends and being a part of a student youth leadership team to plan inclusive events on campus please use this link to sign up!
Hoover Wins Big at Trills & Thrills!
On April 27, Mr. Gonzales, Mr. Miller, and Mr. Tapia took band, choir, and orchestra students up to Knott's Berry Farm to participate in the Trills and Thrills Music Festival with 14 other schools from across the nation. This unique opportunity motivates young performers for months during preparation, and after the festival when they have received feedback of their performances. The Trills and Thrills Adjudicators reinforce the high musical standards that our music department teachers instill in their classrooms. Our young vocalists and musicians scored high and represented Hoover High School well with their performances. These memories will last a lifetime!

Updates to Financial Aid
The California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) has opened the California Dream Act Application (CADAA) to students experiencing difficulties with the 2024-25 FAFSA and who meet all of the following criteria:
First-time financial aid applicants who have never applied for financial aid / submitted a FAFSA
*CSAC is working towards a solution to allow renewal students (students who have completed a FAFSA or CADAA in previous years) to submit a CADAA if they are facing similar challenges with the FAFSA. Once the CADAA is made available to renewal students, CSAC will follow up with students immediately through email or a phone call.
Have at least one FAFSA contributor (parent(s)/spouse) without a Social Security Number (“non-SSN contributor”)
Unable to submit a complete FAFSA due to challenges with processing non-SSN contributors’ section(s)
Students intending to go to a four-year university have until May 2, 2024, to complete the CADAA in order to meet the state priority deadline for state financial aid programs, such as the Cal Grant and Middle Class Scholarship. Students attending a community college have until September 2 to complete a financial aid application and be eligible for state aid
