SHOUT OUTS
Throughout Quarter 2, Lead Academy Juniors completed a Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR) project in their Restorative Justice 1/2 class that challenged them to explore real issues affecting their school and community. Students researched topics they cared about, interviewed educators and community members, and created podcast episodes to share their voices and ideas for change. Along the way, they built skills in collaboration, communication, and critical thinking while pushing themselves to work through challenges. This powerful, student-led project highlights their commitment to civic engagement and helps students earn the Civic Seal of Engagement on their diploma at graduation. If you see any of the students, ask them about the process and congratulate them on their hard work!
Shout out to Mr. Michener for allowing our students to use his equipment and teaching them both how to record and edit their work, he is the true MVP. Shout out to Mr. Perez who completed outreach and helped coordinate partners for the students to receive expert information. Lastly, shout out to any and all who were interviewed from our Principal Mrs. Barcelo-Carrillo, to Ms. Lonnecker and Mrs. Towers, Hoover counselor intern Ms. Karla, Ted from Community Law Project, Ms. Majsterski, Katie Riego, Officer Leon, former alumni Diana Frias, and Lauren Millar. Thank you for your collaboration and support of student voice!
