The Youth Mental Health Academy aims to allow high school students to participate in a community-based career development program and gain knowledge in mental health-related fields. This career development program is designed to give students hands-on experience in a professional work environment, help them develop new skills, and expose them to potential career paths. This program is at NO COST to students; however, YMHA will compensate students for completing the program.
The academy runs for five weeks during the first summer, June – July 2025, regularly throughout the school year, and for up to six weeks during the second summer, June – July 2026. The academy concludes with internships in the summer of 2026.
Students will receive:
First summer: Paid project-based learning around mental health careers and issues and an opportunity to complete a capstone presentation (with a stipend of up to $2,000).
Academic year programming: College planning workshops and other community-building activities.
Second summer: A paid internship in a mental health-related field.
Duration of program: Mentorship from an early-career professional or a college or graduate student pursuing a health-related career. Youth Mental Health Academy team members are with you every step of the way.
Applications will open in November 2024.
Students will gain valuable experience, learn new skills, and make meaningful connections with others in the mental health-related fields.
