The inspiration for this piece was community, and how people can band together for a cause. The intention was to call on our community of students, to call on our generation, and say that we are the revolution. That we are the new wave of people, and we can bring change to this world. As a writer, I feel that this piece best demonstrates my ability to write a piece that calls the audience to action, and pulls them into the piece. It unifies the audience, and builds up to the execution of the final line; we are the revolution. The biggest takeaway for me, as a writer this year, is that I need to find what I'm most passionate about, and use that as my most efficient writing muse. There is so much that can be pulled from about a person's passions, and you can keep building off of that or take it on a whole new direction, and get other people interested in it. In the future, I could see myself writing books of poetry; both personal volumes, and activist volumes for the causes I support. I can put my passion for writing poetry towards not only expressing myself as an individual, but by shedding light on causes that truly need it. By spreading awareness, and saying; "It's right here, all around us, and you can't pretend it's not."
