Community Schools are public schools that provide services and support that fit each neighborhood’s needs, created and run by the people who know our children best. Our goal is to provide data-driven, quality support for all of our students, families, staff, and community members.

4 Pillars of Community Schools

Pillar 1: Integrated Student Supports

"Local on-site supports help overcome both academic and nonacademic barriers. The most common services are medical, dental, and mental health care services; tutoring and academic supports; and resources for families, such as parent education classes and housing assistance."

Pillar 2: Expanded and Enriched Learning Times and Opportunities

"Educators collaborate with community partners to provide learning activities after school and summer programs. Enriched learning time is the responsibility of both schools and communities. "

Pillar 3: Active Family and Community Engagement

"Active family and community engagement is essential to build relationships of trust and respect and empowered decision-making processes. Community schools prioritize meaningful and ongoing engagement of families and community members to feel welcome, supported, and valued as essential partners."

Pillar 4: Collaborative Decision Making

"Collaborative leadership and practices provides the glue that connects the pillars. Collaborative leadership and practices are central to the work of the professionals in the building—teachers, administrators, nonteaching staff, and union leaders—to develop the shared vision and distribute responsibilities
