American College Testing (ACT) 

Who takes this exam and why? 

Juniors and Seniors take it because it may be needed by colleges or universities for admission.  


How do students register to take the exam? 

Register for the exam on their website linked above.  Students will test at approved sites across the county.

Advanced Placement (AP) Exams

Who takes this exam and why? 

Anyone confident in the subject area - usually 8th grade and older - can pay to take the exam in hopes of scoring well to earn college credit.


How do students register to take the exam? 

Register and pay by March 1 for May exams.  All exams have a fee but reduced fees are available for those that qualify.  Students will test at SDUSD schools.   Full details here:   bit.ly/sdusdAP


International Baccalaureate (IB) Assessments

Who takes these assessments and why? 

Seniors in IB schools (San Diego High and Mission Bay High) who are pursuing college credit for earning high scores on assessments.


How do students register to take the assessments

Registration is traditionally before winter break for April/May assessments.  Your IB coordinator will register you - visit them for more details. 


National Examinations in World Languages (NEWL)

Who takes this exam and why? 

Anyone fluent in world language exam offered in hopes of earning college credit for a high score.


How do students register to take the exam? 

Registration begins in February 2024 for April exams to be held at San Diego State University. 


Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test for 10th graders

Who takes this exam and why? 

Free for all SDUSD sophomores + practice for the "real" SAT + practice for the PSAT/NSMQT exam that connects to scholarship.


How do students register to take the exam? 

Complete a short form and more details will be provided to test at school or another location in SDUSD.
