At what stage of the new Junior Cycle did you use this technology in your subject? (e.g. CBA1, portfolios, CBA2 etc.)
Oral presentations in class with First Years and for CBA1.
How did you use the technology in your subject?
To record the students, video recording.
The MFL department are using Google Classroom. We started with First Years and then added in Second Years prior to starting their CBAs.
What did you find worked well? (what benefited teaching and learning?) :
The students were able to review their own work and evaluate themselves.
What didn't work well?
The sound quality of the recordings did not work well first time around for some. It turned out to be a setting problem.
How was the learners’ experience with using this technology? (e.g. did students find it useful/were they able to use it/enjoyed using it etc.) :
Initially they were very nervous about having their work recorded. Everyone expressed a sense of achievement when they had completed the task. The students readily volunteered to do the recording.
Do you have any recommendations for future users of these technologies?
It could be useful to get an external mic. It is important that the teachers have a good grasp of the software before starting to use it with the students. Start with one class and then introduce it to others.
Any other information you believe is useful.
In Bray using GSuite is new. The MFL department are trialing the use of Google classroom and it will be then rolled out to other departments. It would be very useful to have connections for the iPads to the data projectors. As we could make a lot more use of the iPads throughout our lessons.
