“Making From Materials” (2D Design)
This week we were asked to design a mobile holder made of plywood and made by laser cutter machine.
Among Us Video game
I Was Very busy this week, besides Efforts to enhance my time management skills so I didn't have a chance to make the design I was hoping to make but in one of the sessions, the instructors show us a 3D Printed among us character.

(Red sus)
And at that Moment I desided to use this in my design :D
I Used Laser Cutter for The Mobile holder because it's made of wood, and I found it's more suitable for the design, fusion 360 for making the design, also RDWorks helped me extract .RLD For the design instructions to the machine.
Machine

Software
RDWorksV8 laser & Fusion 360
Material
Ply wood sheet 50×30 cm
I Draw A sketch for what the design can be and its dimensions, taking into account the requirements in the design.
Finishing the idea in the sketch, let's make it in fusion to prepare it for fabricate :-)

The Holder design

The parts after add Wood Material on it to have a clearer perception of what should the real parts look.

Then I Saved the sketches as .DXF File so that the laser software can read it.
The Final Result
After Assembly
in Fusion 360 :-)
1. I Head to the Laser Cutter Machine to open it.

2. Import the .DXF File From my USB in the lab computer.

3. After Importing all the parts, we need to do some nesting to minimal the west of wood material after cutting.
After Nesting
Then the Laser Sittings According to you design and purpose, in My Design I choose Speed 25 mm/s and Power 65 %.
After Finishing All the sittings save the file, the computer will save it As (.RLD) file, now we are ready to send the file to the machine.

Let's Take a look inside the laser cutter machine while it's working :-)
It was very nice to see something you designed with your own hands being made before your eyes. ❤

Final Result :-)
In the lab, before I begin to download the file to start the process of printing, the lab specialist Ms. Amany told me to increase the laser power because:
The laser will have to remove more wood because of the bent in the wood sheet. (As it was a scrap and not my wood sheet :D )
As the laser will have to remove more material if the wood sheet is bend more than the normal thickness of it.
I found it a little hard to Assembly the back with the holder pieces and have the T-Slot in the right place, too.
But I Check the measurements of the back and re-edit it, then the problem Solved :D

Of course, have 2D Wood Designs in the final project will be a great idea :-)
If you told me to define what's Nesting I would say Nesting Method: Is the way to find the best placement for your designs in the wood sheet to minimal the waste of material.
This was very interesting to me and what amazed me even more that there are open source software programs to do it automatically for you :D
