Ideation

Tell us about your assignment's idea for this week. Why do you care about this idea? What inspired you? (Please include images or links to sources of inspiration)

This week we were required to find a 3D model of our choice in any opensource CAD library as long as it can be downloaded in an STL format, consists of a single piece model , At the beginning I tried t find a design for a key chain untill I found this mug it's like stainly mug so that I decidec t do it .

Also we have to make another design n laser cutting machine , we have t find 2D shape from any source and converted it into DXF format , I decided to make an Islamic design for a key chain .

1- Ultimaker Cura for slicing the STL file

2- Prusa i3 Mk3 machine for printing

3- PLA filament for printing

4- Cloudconvert.com to convert the file from cdr to dxf format

5- LaserWork 6 for preparing the file to be laser cut.

6- Plywood sheet to execute the medal design

I prepared my design on Uti - Maker CURA

I used Prusa 3d printer .

Also I used thunder laser collector program to make a design for laser cutting machine .

Explain the development/implementation process of your assignment. How did you use the machine/tool to manufacture or implement the design of your assignment?

first I started with the key chain

1. File Preparation:

Check File: Ensure the design file is ready for cutting.
Speed and Power Settings: Verify each cutting mode's speed and power settings.

2. Machine Setup:

Download File: Transfer the design file to the laser cutting machine.
Set Origin: Position the laser at the starting point of the material.

3. Cutting Process:

Start Process: Initiate the laser cutting process.
Monitor Process: Keep an eye on the cutting to ensure it proceeds smoothly and correctly.

1. File Preparation:

Check File: Ensure the design file is correctly set up and ready for printing and ensure the slicing time is correct and the machine is PRUSA i3 MK2.

Upload File: Transfer the 3D design file onto an SD card using an SD reader connected to a flash drive due to the absence of an SD card slot on the laptop. (The G Code)

2. Machine Setup:

Insert SD Card: Place the SD card into the 3D printer.
Heat Up Machine: Preheat the printer to allow the filament material to be pulled up easily.

3. Printing Process:

Select File: Choose the design file from the SD card menu.
Start Print: Begin the printing process by pressing "OK".
Initial Check: Observe the initial layers to ensure the process proceeds correctly.

4. Post-Printing:

Remove Part: Once printing is finished, remove the magnetic bed from the machine and detach the printed part.
Clean Bed: Clean the magnetic bed and return it to the printer.
Remove Supports: Carefully remove the support structure from the design using a screwdriver.

5. Finishing Touches:

Documentation: Capture photos of each step for documentation purposes

I asked my instructor to help me in the design specially in extruding the shape.

Also the instructor in the fab lab helped me to prepare the file for printing and cutting , and I asked her to help me to prepare the dxf files to be ready for the machine.

Overcoming Challenges

When you got stuck, what/who did you turn to? At what point did you have to pause to research or learn more before moving on? What are some mistakes, pitfalls, or challenges that others can avoid if they were doing this assignment?

I had a problem in making the support for the 3Dprint shape it was very difficult , I asked my instructor and he helped me , I was really had challenges to make the support and I did it at the end .

Final Project

How can you use the skills and knowledge that you've acquired this week in your final project?

My final project is made from wood and I will use laser cutting ,

I learned this week how to make a design to laser cutting , and how to make DXF files ,

how to use the machine .

We make a key chain dog shape it was the first day to use the cutting laser machine , I was very happy to work with wood .
