A Smart Pomodoro Timer ⏱
MOMO is a physical Pomodoro timer built around the idea of reducing distractions. Instead of relying on a phone or computer app, it uses a cube form factor with an internal gyrosensor to sense its orientation and set the timer automatically.
Upright position starts a 25-minute focus session.
Tilt to one side for a 5-minute break, the other for 15 minutes.
Flip upside down to pause.
The design removes friction: no menus, no apps, no notifications. Just flip the cube, and it does the rest. An OLED screen shows the countdown clearly, while the MPU6050 gyrosensor detects orientation changes in real time. A small buzzer provides audio feedback, using different tones to signal each mode so you always know where you are without needing to check the display. The system is programmed as a finite state machine, ensuring smooth transitions between work, breaks, and pause modes.
This project highlights how combining simple electronics with thoughtful design can create a practical, working prototype.
