Horses are a big part of my life ,Riding helps me relax, and I often spend my free time at the stable. That’s why I decided to laser cut a horse design to keep on my desk as a small reminder of something I love.
3D PRINTING
For the 3D printing, I love rings, so when I was searching on Thingiverse , I saw this cat side eyeing me, so I just thought I’d pick her. And after putting it on Cura, I felt it would be hard to make it without any deformation.

LASER CUTTING
I searched on 3axis, for a DXF format for the horse and I found it there.
I imported it into RDWorks.
I made some modifications Changed dimensions and placed it in a way that wont consume to much from the sheet.
Adjusted the parameters:
CUT:
Speed: 40
Power: 45

3D PRINTING
First, I imported the STL file into Cura.
Then I adjusted the orientation to make sure it was positioned correctly.
I set the printing parameters such as layer height : 0.1, infill : 20% .
Didn't need to put any support just brim .
It took only 28min , 2gm .
Copied the files to the SD card.
Inserted the SD card into the machine.
Preheated the bed.
Used the same filament that was already loaded.
Selected the file from the printer’s screen.
The printer moved the nozzle to determine the starting point.
started with a brim layer for better bed adhesion.
The print was completed successfully.
I removed the print from the bed and peeled the brim.
Copied the file to a USB and connected it to the laptop linked to the machine.
Loaded the file onto the machine.
Turned on the machine and selected the file.
Set the nozzle’s starting point and adjusted the origin for accuracy.
Secured the board with clamps to prevent movement during the process.
Started the machine, which completed the job successfully .

I faced an issue in my first design selecting the edges of toast model for engraving, so I asked the lab specialist, Eman, for help. She advised me to use an offset, which solved the problem. Later, my instructor pointed out that converting the vector file to DXF was outside the project requirements. so I’ll recut a new model using a supported format from an open-source site like 3axis .
