Laser Cut
1- I searched on open-source sites to find a superman logo with a suitable extension to use and my main concern was the amount of cutting i will do so I don't exceed my quota .
2-Then I imported all the files using RDWork software
3.I adjust the parts to be cut from the board in black, the parts to be scanned in red, and the parts to be drawn only by speed cutting. then adjust the speeds and powers.
Parameters for Cut
Parameters for Scan
5. Finally I saved the file as (.rdl), and get ready to fabricate
3D Print
I searched on Thingiverse (an open-source CAD library) for a logo and download it
It was (.STL) format.
I used Ultimaker Cura for the slicing process.
Parameters Adjustment.
Infill: 20%.
Support: No support because there is no need for it
Adhesion
Layer Height= resolution : 0.2
I Slice the project to make sure that the time and material amount is ok.
I found that it will take 48 Min which is within my available time.
It will take 7 grams of PLA Plastic.
Finally, I export the file as (.gcode) for the 3d printer.
3D Print
The specialist reviewed my file to make sure that all parameters ok.
I saved the file as (.gcode) on the machine's sim card.
Then, insert the sim card into the machine.
After that, I unloaded the loaded filament then load a White PLA filament and wait till the loading process is finished.
Then, I choose the file from the sim card and press start to print file, and wait till the heating process for the nozzle to 215 degrees and the bed plate to 60 degrees.
The process takes 48 min . as assumed by UltiMaker Cura.
Then, I remove the superman logo from the bed plate after spring alcohol to ease the process.
Carefully, I removed the brim from the logo
The following video shows the process.
Laser Cut
I went to Fab Lab Maadi at the which is assigned time.
I opened the (.rld) file on LaserWork software on the PC to make sure the parameters ok.
I turned on the machine.
I Place the PLY 3mm wood sheet.
I downloaded the file from the PC to the machine.
Insert it into the machine by the (file) and then (enter) Buttons.
I move the nozzle to the beginning of the wood sheet by (+) Button.
I set the origin point by the (origin) Button.
I tested the frame by the (Frame) Button.
Finally, I start the machine with the (start) Button).
The cutting process took 8 min.
The following video shows the cutting process
Main challenge was finding time to learn and do all the tasks , it wasn't about the actual fabrication processes
Technical Challenge was not knowing how to operate the lazer cutter machine & 3d printer on my own for the first time and Lap specialist was to help me ant teach me
Title of Media
Throughout the week, I underwent training in both 2D and 3D software, crucial for the upcoming implementation of my final project. The project involves creating an educational smart game board. I can now envision the board's surface design using wood and anticipate the speed cut or scan needed. Additionally, for player avatars, I plan to utilize 3D printing. My experience with digital fabrication machines this week has been valuable, allowing me to conceptualize the materials and time required for designing the game's external structure.
