Creating a cool glasses with mixed design 3D printing and laser cut
Software:
for laser cutting: laser work
for 3D printing : Ultimaker Cura
Materials:
for laser cutting we can use play wood 3mm
for 3D printing PLA filament
Machine: I used in the lab
for 3D: Prusa i3 MK3 3D
for laser cutting: El malky laser cut machine
Fusion 360
Arms of the glasses Steps for 3D printing
First creating the Arm of the glasses on fusion 360.(draw a rectangle then and adding 2 inclined lines from one side and square from the other side)then draw a square perpendicular to the rectangle so it will form L shape
Extrude each component to give it a 5 mm thickness.
To export the glasses' arm as an STL, select it. (from file>>export>> name the part and choose .stl format and chose where to save it
For slicing process, I exported the g-code for the 3D printer using Ultimaker Cura.
Parameters Adjustment:
I used mirror option while before printing the arm to duplicate it. - Scale: I kept it the same - Infill: 20% - weight: 7 g - time: 23 mins- Support: did not need any support- Adhesion: to make a brim).
then, I adjust the 3D printing machine( Prusa i3 MK3 3D) for printing the arms
Dimensions of the arms 14cm the width of my puppet face same as glasses of human
plastic appearance
Frame of the glasses Steps for Laser cut
I created the glasses' frame using Fusion 360.(drawing 2 circles inside each other, adding square at each side ,write the name mared washwashny",then made a hole at each tip so I could put a nail, finally define the pint and the line to be fully defined, extrude then save as dxf)
To get ready for the next stage, extrude it to a thickness of 3 mm and save the file as dxf.
I loaded the DXF file into LaserWork in order to get it ready for laser cutting. Press the right-click button and choose (save as DXF).(Chose the part that I wanna save, click create, save as dxf, then choose the file where I wanna save it, and repeat that step with each part to save the whole model)
I chose to cut all the other lines and make the name Scanned.
In order to prepare the file for laser cutting, I saved it in.rld format.
After that, I open the file on the laser cutting machine and begin adjusting it for cutting.
parameters(cut (black color, speed:30- power:50).
the name of "mared" was Scanned(blue color, speed:300- power:30 )
Dimensions of the frame 10cm the width of my puppet face
Tools on fusion: fillet, extrude.
Fully defined
To confirm that all of the parameters were correct, I opened the rld file on the fablab computer. downloading the file on the machine from the pc.
switching the machine on.I tested the nozzle after adjusting its focus.
I used the origin button to find the origin location and began framing from there.
I turned on the machine at last to begin cutting.
Started to print with the help of the specialist as following:
open the file then running the machine.
wait until heating up the start printing and shooting the process.
Final output
the hole in the arm of the glasses needed supported design as it was very thin.
the technician advised me that the side of the arm that will be attached to the glasses supposed to be more thick. I thick that I can redesign it with thick tip familiar to the following pic.
Being able to design and fabricate the parts that I will need.
The cool glasses that also can be used as a frame for pictures
