The task for this week involved creating design files with software and creating models with 3D printing and laser cutting.

3D printing
➡using Thingiverse t search for baby groot figure and download it in .STL format for the 3D printing.
open Ultimaker Cura software t prepare the model and adjusting the parameters as following :
Scale: I increased it to 200%
Resolution: 0.2 mm
Strength : 10 % Infill Density
then slicing to know the rest or the parameters
Time: 40 min.
Weight: 4 g.
Note:
adding normal Support (to support the arms of the groot) Adhesion (adding brim so the groot won’t fall while being printed )
Saving the file in gcode and mention the time and grams in the name.
Machine:
download file on SD card then placed it in the 3D printer, chose the file, started printing.
Laser cut
➡downloaded design as a dxf file from 3axis.co. using laserwork software, I imported the dxf file to prepare it for laser cutting.
I reduced the size of the Coaster to take 50×50 of the sheet.
I decided to make the eye Scanned(blue color, speed:300- power:30 ) and all the other parts speed cut(red color, speed:330- power 10), and the whole circle of the coaster cut (black color, speed:30- power:50).
saving the file in .rld and open it on the PC connected to the machine, making sure that all parameters were right then download to the machine.
Machine:
checking the nozzle, origin, and framing to check fitting the part with wood sheet, then start.
3D printing
The specialist reviewed my slicing process on Cura to make sure that all parameters were OK.
to start printing by following these steps:
1. Loading the filament with the colour I chose, we had to cut it diagonally, which enables the filament to load easily.
2. Heating up the machine.
3.Putting in the SM card and selecting my file.
4.Running the machine to start printing.
Laser cutting process
I opened the rld file on the fablab PC to make sure that all parameters were ok.
I turned on the machine.
I adjusted the focus of the nozzle and tested it using the pulse button.
I determined the origin point using the origin button to start cutting from it.
I downloaded the file from the pc to the machine.
Finally, I ran the machine to start cutting.
The whole process of cutting
When I was picking a module to print, I picked another groot, and I thought that there was no need for the support. I started to print it, and then, before finishing it, I discovered that there was a movable part, which I hadn’t noticed before, so I replaced it with the other groot.
It will help me to deal the laser cut and 3D printing machines to prepare the parts of the final project.
