Since I started woodworking, I dreamed of involving futuristic features in the pieces I make. I saw some videos of those interactive table tops on different social media platforms and I thought if I was able to apply this technology I will be able to improve the design and add some features that would improve the user experience not just impress them.
Touch Sensitive Table
The idea of this project that it adds to the initial piece of furniture another added feature. It can now work as a lighting unit along side being a table. It is also an added entertainment element to the user and also if the user have pets.
Human and a Cat interacting with the table top
I imagine the table can be controlled with a remote control to be able to switch the light color. It also would have different moods to control light intensity and to allow the touch interaction or stop it if needed.
It would also be connected to smart home app so it can be a part of the different scenes and can be controlled thought the phone .
Construction Parts
The enclosure of the table will be designed as 2.5D parts using Fusion 360 and fabricated using Laser Cutting combined with epoxy resin to act as light diffuser.
The inside parts will be mix of 3D printed parts and 2.5D parts hosting the light and electronics
Input
(Sensing, Tactile Input, and/or Graphical Input)
The Table will take input from the user when it sense touch or pressure. Also the Table can take input from remote to change light color.
Action
(Physical and/or Graphic)
The Table will react to the user touch and emit light in the place it sensed motion or pressure.
It could also have a remote control that can help the user change the light color and activate always on mode.
Brain
An Arduino UNO board will be used to take inputs and generate actions.
Power Management
I think a wireless power source would be the most convenient.
