Source of Inspiration
I have chosen a simple pen holder that contains multiple compartments. I have searched Google and I tried to choose the most simple design to decrease the needed time for design. I decided to make it with one big compartment and 4 small ones for others pens.
Software: 1- Fusion 360 2- RD Works V8
Machines : El Malky ML149
Materials : ply wood 3mm thickness.
Steps are as follow:
Start with the Left Side Plane and Extrude
Begin by sketching the left side and extruding it to a thickness of 3 mm.
Copy and Paste as Right Side
Copy the left side design and paste it as the right side to ensure symmetry. Any edits made to one side will automatically apply to the other.
Draw the Front and Join with Sides
Draw the Top and add the circular compartments and Project Teeth Positions .
Draw the bottom and add the circular compartments .
Assemble All Organizer Parts
Assemble all the parts (sides, back, base, and top) to form the complete Pen holder.
Save to .dxf File for Laser Cutting. .
Laser cutting Steps :
Save file as DXF from the shortcut imported in Fusion
2 .Color the design lines in Black based on the desired operation:
Black/cut:
Max. Speed: 40 , Power: 45 , Export the file and Save in a *.RLD format.
Set up the laser cutter machine:
I Placed the plywood sheet on the laser cutter bed and chose my origin point (where the nozzle will start from).
I watched the laser cutter to make sure it had been running correctly.
At the end, I picked up the item once it finished, then turned it off.
Final output
The biggest challenge was the deadlines , I was late and I did not fabricate till the 5:50 pm and the lab closes it is doors at 6:00 pm sharp . I asked for help from the lab specialist Asmaa and she helped me to cut the design in the machine .
Shout out for Asmaa and Eman for their Helppp and Support 😁
