For this week's assignment, I chose to print the SU-47 aircraft because I am interested in this type of aircraft based on my educational background
I also chose to cut the world map because of my long-life dream is to travel around the world. Perhaps while you are reading this in the future, I will be in Canada or rural Switzerland, perhaps Malaysia.
RDworks
I Use RDworks to set my machining settings for the laser cut machine such as (Power, Speed ) and set the suitable mode for each process (Cut, Scan and dot)
Machine : Morn MT3050D CO2 Laser Cutter
Ultra Maker Cura
I use the Ultramaker Cura software to edit my 3D Model properties such as (Scale, Resolution and infill ) and prepare it for machining by setting a suitable machining time within the 90's available minutes and print it in acceptable scale and weight
Machine : PRUSA i3 MK2 3D Printer
1.Ultramaker Cura Process
1- Set 0.2mm Resolution
and 20% Infill
2 - Set the Orientation as shown
3- set the scale
Slicing
Slice results
2.RDworks Process
Remove the text and rescale the size to 400.00mm
Changing the power and speed to fit each process (Cut&Scan)
For laser cutting the process was as follows:
first, I checked the scale on the laser works program before downloading the file to the machine
Fixing the wood board on the machine
Set the origin point
Tracking the frame
Run
For 3D Printing the process was as follows:
first, i choosed the color then unload the old loaded PLA and load the new one
then checked on the ultracura software if all the design bottom touching the pad or I need to put supports
Set the temperature to 215
put the file on the microcard
chose the file on the machine and let's go
I didn't face any problems with the laser cutting process, but the problem was in 3D printing. The Supports were attached to the body of the plane in a bad way. It was difficult to separate them from the body of the plane, so we went back to the program and changed some settings in the support setting, including the distance of the stents in the Z direction.
Big thanks to Sara "the Lab Specialist" and Noha "the fab lab manager" whose helped me to solve it
I used the knowledge I gained from the first week's videos of how to use laser cutting and 3D printing in adjusting the machine settings for cutting and printing in this way
The coolest thing I learned this week is how a laser cutting machine and a 3D printing machine work.
What's more amazing than that is the prototype of the smart desk lamp, which we made using cardboard, scissors, and sticky wax.
I learned from this that I can do anything without the need for powerful tools
Finally, the practical experience in cutting the dog and printing the dinosaur was very useful to me before doing the first assignment
