our assignment this week was to design a phone holder on fusion 360 using its tools and to assemble it with screws and nuts
at first i googled for laser cut phone holders and resorted to the elephant phone holder design
the softwares used to interpret the designs to the machines were ultimaker cura and rdwoks
fusion 360
RDWorks
ply wood
MALKY ml1390 laser cutter
first i designed the back and bottom parts and made them the same ,added the t slots for the screws and nuts to fit, and added tabs to join the other parts perpendicularly , defined the sketch and finished it , then extruded it 3mm
then i designed the side parts to the shape of an elephant, added holes to the sides to join the tabs and the screws and nuts to the t slots , defined the the sketch and finished it , then extruded it to 3mm
i duplicated the sides and the back and bottom parts ,then assembled the parts to visualize the final product
a rendered image of the final product
then i exported the sketches to dxf and added them to RD works , duplicated the drawings and mirrored one of the sides to print the eye of the elephant accordingly then added cut lines
i created two cut lines
a cut line of 10 speed and 60 power
a cut line of 200 speed and 15 power
design after cutting
i started the machine, adjusted the laser focus and origin point, then copied the design file from the flash drive to the machine's memory .
after that i tracked the cutting area and checked for the work time preview which was 3min and 37 sec.
finished product
Israa gave me great feedback on how to define curves in the elephant design as it was hard to make
we defined the curves by fixing the center points , then defined the width and height of the curve to make sure it won't change
finally checked every point was defined and fixed at the end of the curves and the design was complete
i got stuck in designing the elephant's trunk of the side parts let alone defining them.
but israa helped me in designing it by using the ellipse tool to make fully defined curves .
i could use the skills i learned to make the box of my project that houses the components and the music box
the coolest thing learnt was how to make fully defined curves and making the rocking chair in the EOweek session
