The assignment of this week is Design a model of a simple pen and pencil holder by using Fusion 360 and fabricate it using 3D printing
After searching on the internet I found many designs. But I was looking for a simple design that meets with the requirements of the assignment. Then I found this design and I cared about it because it is simple and new design and then decided to implement a similar design, but with some additions
https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/home/pen-holder-ps42ws
Software:
Fusion 360
I use it to design the model because it is very simple and easy to use and perfect to design a 2.5D
Ultimaker Cura
I use it to adjust the parameters before print and to get the g-code file and also because it suitable with the machine in lap
Machine:
3D Printer
PRUSA i3 MK2
Because it is the available
Materials:
PLA filament
By searching to find the most design I will interest to.
Sketching a free hand design with pen and paper
< < Images > >
Start a new sketch
Select the plane (X,Y)
Start sketch with a rectangle (base)
Make offset plan from the base
Create a new rectangle on the new plan (Top)
Connect the two rectangles with lines
Finish the sketch and select feature (Loft) and select the two rectangles and the rails
Make fillet for the sharp edges
Shill the body with 2mm
Select an appearance for the body (Paint Black, Polyamide Kapton)
Make a new sketch and extrude cut
Circular pattern for the feature
Save as STL file
< < Images > >
Open the STL file with Cura software
Move the body in X axis due to the screws in the printer bed
Decrease the scale with 85%
Adjust the parameters (Infill, profile and support
Slice
Save to the disk as g-code file

After the software files were finished, I went to the Fab Lab to implement the design
Firstly, open my STL file in cura again and adjust the temperature from 200 to 215 and re Slice and then save to the disk
Secondly, Run the printer from its power supply
Copy the g-code file into the SD card of the printer
insert the SD into the printer and then select my file
Then let the bed heating

Thirdly, The printer start print and I watched the first layer to make sure it is okay
Watching the layers

At the end, The final model and make sure that it is work

I asked instructor Ibrahim about his feedback for my pen holder, and he told me that the cuts in the design will need a extra support and will be difficult to remove it. So I edit the design and remove the cuts to avoid this problem.

When I finish the design and then save the STL file, I didn't find it and only I found is (Save as a mesh)
So I went to Slack (Community troubleshooting) and ask. Then instructor Esraa, Michael and Merit told me to select Save as a mesh then select STL binary. And it is works

I have gained some knowledge that will help me in making the design levels in the base of the body of the laptop cooler by the 3D Printer
The coolest thing that I have learned this week is how to design any 3D models and fabricate a pen holder with the 3D Printer by my own design
