Ideation

Tell us about your assignment's idea for this week. Why do you care about this idea? What were you inspired by?

Design and Print a pen holder using the 3d modeling techniques for this week.

It was a good start to understand the concept of making a complete 3d model and try to stay focused on printing it with the right scale and weight.

I like the origami shapes "like the low poly thinker in week 1" so I decided to make a simple origami pen holder and engrave my niece's name on it to give it to her as a gift.

Explain the design and/or preparation process of your assignment. How did you use the tool or software to design and/or prepare your assignment before fabrication/implementation?

Development/Implementation Process

Explain the development/implementation process of your assignment. How did you use the machine/tool to manufacture or implement the design of your assignment?

1- Import the model to Ultimaker Cura and set the variables required to achieve the right time and weight.

Scale it down in the z-axis direction.
Use 0% infill.
No supports.
Resolution 0.3

2- Get the final file to the printer using the SD card.
3- Prepare the 3d printer by waiting for the bed to get the right temperature, select the required filament, make sure no previous filament is mixing up with the new model and ruining its color then wait for the design to get printed.

What kinds of challenges or problems did you face while doing the assignment, tutorials, or exercises? How did you solve them? Did you ask for help from an instructor or peer? Please provide a link to the tutorial or article that you used to solve your problem (if any)

1- Trying to achieve the suitable time and weight for the model
I tried to scale it down and make 0% infill instead of 15%.
The fab lab specialist helped me to decrease the required time by suggesting to change the resolution from 0.2 to 0.3 instead to speed it up.

2- Another problem that occurred is that the text wasn't showing clearly and it might have been solved it it was engraved right with more extrusion "cut".

Final Project

How can you use the skills and knowledge that you've acquired this week in your final project?

During printing

Being able to make any curvature required in the façade design by design and print irregular geometric shapes.
