I am a top fan of Harry Potter movies, I do not love watching movies usually but when they are related to Harry Potter I would rewatch them many times so I did my research on the major website for open source files like 3axis.co, Thingiverse & Instructables and found that nice designs.
when I visited the lap for the first time In A FabShell, I made this keychain which makes me keen on doing many things like it again.
For the bookmark, it will be cut on the laser cutter, So I'll use LaserCAD V8.10 software to prepare the pwj5 file that will be sent to the Laser Cutting machine. I add some engraving to the design by downloading a special font to make it as I want. The material will be plywood.
LaserCAD V8.10
For the Owl, I printed it using the 3d printer, So I'll use Ultimaker Cura software to prepare the gcode file that will be sent to the 3D printer Prusa i3 MK2. I checked the support and adhesion to save time and weight. The material will be PLA and its color is white.
Ultimaker Cura 5.1.0
I wanted to write my favorite quote from the movie which is "After all this time? always..".
I downloaded the font and added it to the design.
I Scaled it down by 36%
Also, I did the following changes:
The layer height was 0.2mm cause I wanted the surface smooth.
The infill was 10% cause there would not be any pressure.
Supports to touch build plate only.
No adhesion is needed cause it will be on the bed plate
I asked the fab lap specialist to make sure that I used the suitable speed and power.
I checked the focus and made sure that everything was okay.
But not everything went as I thought, the laser did not cut the first time as I started from a far point so an error was shown "engrave beyond board limit".
Also, The hat did not cut as it was a line, and no engraving for a line so we changed it to cut but at a very high speed and low power.
Before coloring
The first edition using Acrylic colors.
I put the gcode on the card.
changed the filmant.
Preheat the machine.
I checked the bed.
The machine started working.

Here are the problems that I faced:
For the converting of the files, I searched a lot then used the suitable Converter.
I did not know that we can engrave a line but the instructor helped me to solve it.
The laser did not cut the first time as I started from a far point so an error was shown "Engrave beyond board limit".
I am not familiar with using colors so I colored the first bookmark in a bad way, I repeated the design to color it again and I did it better.
My lovely bookmarks.
An example for the enclosure
I have learned how to use the 3D printer and laser cutter which is very helpful for me as l want to make the final project enclosure from wood.
Also I have learned that I have to make sure that all points are in the sheet before cutting to avoid any errors.
I enjoyed the week, the process, and the mixture of having fun and also gaining knowledge in the same time. I learned how to use 3D printer and laser cutter by my own. Also, I knew the importance of the extensions.
I managed to do a 2D sketch using fusion 360 for the first time.
It was realistic and I loved it!
