This week's assignment was designing a pen holder on Fusion 360 and then slicing the design on Ultimaker Cura to fabricate it using the 3D printer.
I got inspired by the Pokemon ball, so I used a multicolor filament in my design to resemble a Pokemon pen holder.
Software
Material
First, I started with the x-z plane to draw this 2d sketch.
Then I selected the closed profile and the axis I want to revolve around.
I chose to revolve 360 degrees to make this cylindrical shape.
5. IÂ started drawing a new 2D sketch on the top plane of my design.
6. With the mirror feature, I duplicated the sketch and offset it to give me a 3mm thickness.
7. I extruded the 4-quarter circles to cut 97mm from the body.
This design exceeded the required time and weight limit on the slicing process. So I edited it and removed some of its material to match the design requirements.
8. IÂ removed the previous sketch.
6. Instead of extruding cut (sub-feature) I used Shell (sub-feature).
7. I shelled all the material inside to leave a cylindrical shape with 2mm thickness as shown in the following pictures.
After editing to match the requirements, I changed the appearance of my design to have the same colors as the pokemon ball.
I saved my design as a mesh to download the STL file and prepare it on Cura.
First, I reduced the scale non-uniformly to 60% on the X&Y axes and 70% on the Z axis.
Then, I started the slicing process and got that my design will take 1hr and 24 min
From: Extensions > Post Processing > Modify G-Code.
I found the Layer for the Change in the Preview.
I added the Filament Change Script.
PS: Don't add the (pause at height) script because it was already paused from the previous script.
Adjust the Script Settings.
Slice the Object Again.
In this phase I started printing.
Then, I changed filament and continued printing.
It took 1hr and 31 min according to filament change process.
Final Result
This design exceeded the required time and weight limit on the slicing process. So I edited it and removed the material.
I used Shell (sub-feature) to make it a simple cylindrical shape with 2mm thickness as I mentioned in the design phase.
