My project idea is a smart door lock that work by fingerprint sensor or keypad. this video inspired me to do so
The project consists of 3 parts face, back and side
First: face : I designed it to be smart and contain the fingerprint, lcd and keypad and mount them to the design after adding from grabcad to make suitable dimensions
second: back: it was designed to contain the solenoid lock and arduino
Third : the side: first it was designed as part of the face but when printing I found that it would need more supports so I cut it off the face to be a single part
the back which solenoid lock and arduino are mounting on
this side was cut from the face to reduce the supports
face representing the interface of the design and containing lcd, keypad and finger print sensor
for 3d printing:
after designing the parts in fusion 360, I saved them as stl files and opened them in cura software for slicing.
I sliced the back part and saved it to the printer card as .gcode file with temp. 215*c , infill 10% and layer heigh 0.3mm without any supports, and started printing.
It was supposed for back to take 4h and 66g ,but at nearly 50% of the printing process, I found that the part is rigid and stable so I decided to stop the printer to save time and material.
In slicing the face, I found it needed much supports ,so the lab specialist Moiz suggested cutting one side of the face off to reduce supports and making it later as a single part. I made it as the same parameters of the back part and it took 6h50m so I left it to be printed in the lab and received it the next day.
for laser cutting:
after designing in fusion 360, I saved the sketches as .dxf files and opened them in rd works software to setup power and speed.
I set the power as 30 and speed 25 and saved it to the flash memory to open in the laser machine.
I chose my file, copied it to mem, set origin and track the file.
after all is well, I ran the machine.
I made the side which were cut with laser cutting machine.
I also made a part to be as a door to mount the project on it

design of door in rd works
rd works for laser cutting
I didn't make it till end!
The input is fingerprint sensor and out put is solenoid lock.
when the I touch sensor the solenoid will open
first I made this circuit and tested without any coding by connecting the adaptor and removing it and the solenoid worked properly
then, I made this circuit
Adding the finger print sensor and testing
My proiect can be operated with 2 power source (3*3.7v batteries) or (12VDC adabtor)
During testing, I used the adabtor because the batteries weren't bought yet but in finally I used the batteries in order to make it portable
I used 12v because the solenoid lock work with it and didn't work properly with 9v
I depended on the video for the connection https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWRHiHX0Qmc
first I downloaded adafruit fingerprint library then enrolled my fingerprint using enroll then used the finger library.
second I connected the solenoid lock to relay pin 11 and gave it order high and low and tested if it worked
enrolling
total code
I had to assemble the cut side with the face using glue because It wasn't taken into consideration to be cut.
Other parts was designed to be assembled using detachable joiners
using detachable joiners to assemble the face with the back and door
I tested the fingerprint sensor after uploading its code and worked correctly.
I tested the keypad separately and it worked correctly
I wish I could operate them together to achieve the complete feature but when merging the 2 codes together the circuit didn't work so I made it with the minimum feature only
testing the fingerprint
testing the keypad
-I asked my friends for feedback and listened to their opinions, Islam liked it and Ashmawy advised me to make a box to mount the lock on it ,but it was too late and I didn't have time.
-I'm really grateful to my friend Yasen who inspired me to use threaded inserts to assemble parts together and helped me to add them
All people were helpful, I asked my instructors in ODC (Mohanad, Menna, Sherif and Esraa) for different problems and they helped me all, also my friend Yasen helped me greatly in adding threaded inserts in the body
Also the lab specialist Rowa and Moiz helped me greatly in slicing and making supports
-In adding the fingerprint sensor, I found myself in need to learn more about it, I searched on google for its datasheet and wiring, I did that also with the solenoid lock and found that I would use relay module
-I advise anyone who want to make this project to make sure that the parts you are adding from grabcad is same as you are using in real in order not to face any problems with the design, search for datasheets for electronic objects in order not to burn and don't forget to make a space for the wires.
I would add blutooth module
-I would add RFID module or replace it with the keypad
-I would make a box and mount things on it
