The first task was to prepare a proposal for the final project; I was inspired by the DIYbio team from London University, so I already had an idea; after that, I looked for similar projects on Thingeverse, Fabacademy, and Instructables. After that, I discuss the idea with Menna and Mohaned, who advise me on how to tweak it to fit our lab's needs.
The second challenge was to build a mobile phone holder out of cardboard. I looked on YouTube until I found a design I liked and then started working on it.
I used cardboard, a cutter, and a glue gun to make this project.
The next task was to install Fusion 360 and become familiar with its features and designing a fidget spinner.
the last task was to design a mobile holder I searched for design fit the maker criteria till I found one while searching on free patterns area I just made some edit to match the technical criteria. then search for the dimensions. I choose a quote from coldplay song fix you to engrave on my mobile holder cause this song inspiring me.
We used Fusion 360 software this week to create a variety of designs, including a fidget, a chair, and a mobile holder. After the exercise, we were familiar with the program's functionality. The first and most important step is to install Fusion 360, then tweak the parameters, and then create a new project and folder. Fusion 360 allows us to develop and then export the design as a dxf file for usage with a laser cutting.
I used fusion 360 after choose consist of 2 parts design :
1-create sketch
2-for part 1 draw triangle with length 190 mm and width 100 mm apply flit to give it a shape in edges
6- offcet
7-draw 2 central lines as constriction and then fixed
8-draw circle in the base to give the shape
9-draw 3.2 mm circle for the t slot
10-draw rectangle 30 mm width and 2 mm length
11-apply mirror to have the same rectangle
12- Make the shape fully defined by using sketch dimension tool and the central lines
13-part 2 draw rectangle with length 120 and width 100
14-in the base draw 2 tapes with length 30 mm and width 15 mm
15- draw t slot between the 2 tapes
16- Make the design fully defined
17- extrude tool 3mm and new component
18-assemble and choose joints
19- folder sketch - right click- save as dxf
First, I looked for a design with dimensions in the free patterns area, next I made some adjustments to satisfy the maker's criteria, then I drew the new design on paper to help me, and then I started drawing it using 360. After this step I exported the file as dxf and then use laser work software yo prepare file for laser cutting machine upload the dxf file to laser worl and adjust the cutting speed 20 mm\sec and power 65% 300 mm/s , engraving Power: 25. choose a quote from fix you song coldplay to be engraving using red color and cutting parts with black color and the last step to download the fike as rld.
then using the laser cutting machine, uploaded the file to the machine computer then downloaded it o the machine , adjust the focus and choose the start point and start cutting it takes 5 mins.
Yes, I contacted my peers about an issue I was having with Fusion 360 since I couldn't get the design fully defined, and they told me about a constraint problem and how to fix it.
Marwa suggested that we replace tapes with T slots so that we can have a wider range of designs that meet the criteria.
I was confused when I was supposed to assemble the design, but Mohanned explained everything to me step by step until I completed it. the problem was that I didn't confirm change new body to new component. also I had problem when i uploaded the dxf file to laser work it just gave me 2 lines I asked Mina and Mohaned , we found that I exported the file from the top side which is not the right side.
