- What parents can do at home to help their children:
- Check assignment books and take-home folders for homework and notes on a daily basis.
- Encourage your children to become responsible for themselves. I tell them in school that it’s not always mom or dads job to check, it’s theirs.
- READ. Anything. Anytime. Anywhere. Street signs while driving. Cereal box at breakfast. Aisle signs at grocery store. Oriental Trading catalog that just came in the mail. (catalogs are great for teaching money too)
- Use those ipods for something other than Minecraft. (I know, easier said than done). Use the timer for fluency reads or the alarm for signaling that it’s time to start/stop homework. Use educational apps and websites on the electronic devices as much as possible.
