What’s so GREAT about Co-taught classes!

1. CT classes have a heterogeneous population. This means that such a class has very diverse learners. A student gets to interact with other students who have different strengthens and needs than their own. Students can be positive role models for others or find positive role models in these classes.
2. Two is better than one! A CT class has two teachers that are highly qualified. Hence they are both in a position to teach you, answer your questions and help you meet your specific need.
3. Each teacher has expertise in his or her areas – one teacher is thorough with the content and the other teacher has knowledge about the specific nature of how each student learns.
4. CT classes provide a student with instant feedback. Even as instruction is going on, the second teacher is moving around assisting students by providing clarifications and prompts for attention.
5. Research shows that CT classes improve student achievement and minimize failure as teachers use a wide variety of teaching/ learning strategies in small group and one-on-one instruction.
6. In a CT class a student interacts with other students vastly different from him or her and learns to have respectfor all types of individuals.
7. CT classes are recommended at the high school level as teachers cover more content area knowledge, help student develop independent study skills, make the class fast pace, and prepare students for high stakes testing (the Keystones!)
8. CT classes give little opportunity for excuses on the part of the student to not perform at a successful level since there’s twice the assistance available in the classroom and outside the class (such as Resource Room or Falcon period).
Good luck and have a great year ahead.
