Writing

*Continue working on your "Oh the Places You'll Go" writing piece that includes:

A job you would like to have in the future, why you chose that job, what you will have to do in order to get that job

and/or

A place you would like to visit, why you chose that place, what you would do in that place

*Journal Writing: Pick your own topic and write about it.

*Sticker Story: If you have any stickers at home, you can choose what you'd like to use and write a story

Research Report: Research a person, place, or animal and write an informational essay about that topic.

Reading

*Curriculums for reading in learning support depend on your child's instructional level and IEP goals.

• Reading Milestones: This provides a whole language approach to reading/language arts connected to a story that the students read. (this link provides information for parents) Reading Milestones Information
• Reading homework (varies depending on instructional level): It is attached to your child's spelling packet. Students are encouraged to read all or part of the reading story out loud. Please help them with more difficult words and guide them to understand what they are reading. They are able to highlight, underline, and circle on their story. It is assigned on Monday and is due on Friday. It is either a fictional or non-fictional story with different types of questions that are not part of the student's direction instructional group. It is meant to improve their comprehension skills.

Spelling Resources

Purple Group Spelling: Spelling homework comes from the 5th grade Storytown list of words. The activitiy pages include various skills to work with the spelling words. They also should practice pronouncing the words and breaking it a part in their homework packet. This helps them improve their decoding and encoding skills to overall improve reading fluency.

Green Group Spelling: All spelling homework is from SRA Spelling. The purpose of spelling homework is to improve student's literacy through phonics and improve student's reading fluency. Homework is assigned on a Monday or the first day of the school week and is due on Friday.

• Activities include:
  • ABC Order
  • 2 color words (consonants in 1 color and vowels in another color)
  • Pyramids (Students write one letter on each line and build their word down. The number of lines students should use should be equal to the number of letters in the word.)
