This is my fifth year with Salisbury School District and my eight year teaching. I am a graduate of Western Kentucky University, where I earned a degree in Agronomy with a concentration in soil science-then went on to work for the Natural Resources Conservation Service and various other positions in the field of science. My favorite part of these positions was when I had the opportunity to work with students, providing science education programs through exploring the world around them; I returned to school to earn my master's degree in education from Kutztown University of Pennsylvania.
I am looking forward to an exciting year of science exploration through a wide range of hands on learning opportunities!
Eighth grade science is a course that will introduce students to the basic principles of chemistry, physics, and weather and climate, while developing the skill of observation, analysis and critical thinking. The content of the course will include topics in the following areas: matter, chemical reactions, energy, forces, motion, natural resources, factors of weather and the understanding of patterns that encompass climates. Students will also explore issues in environmental health and law. The course is designed to expose students a variety of different teaching and learning methods. Students will be encouraged to think and solve problems as scientists do. Students will use scientific instruments and the metric system to perform "hands-on" activities and practice reading and communicating scientific data.
