Community Service
Community Service
168 Hours Total: Two Weeks
During my time with GVI in Pokhara, Nepal, I had the unique opportunity to lead a team of seven in a community sustainability project focused on local schools. Our mission was to develop and implement sustainable practices that would benefit both the schools and the surrounding communities. This experience challenged me to think critically about the long-term impact of our efforts and to work collaboratively with both my team and the local population.
One of the most impactful aspects of my experience was visiting SASANE, Samrakshak Samuha Nepal, an organization dedicated to raising awareness about human trafficking. This visit deepened my understanding of the social challenges facing the region and reinforced my commitment to making a difference. Engaging with the SASANE team opened my eyes to the importance of education and advocacy in combating such critical issues, and it motivated me to incorporate these elements into our sustainability efforts.
Taking part in this project not only enhanced my leadership and teamwork skills but also broadened my perspective on global issues. It was a transformative experience that strengthened my resolve to pursue a path where I can continue to contribute meaningfully to both local and international communities.
2 Months of Fundraising
As the Vice President of the Jr. Civitan Club at Salisbury Academy, I had the privilege of helping to organize and lead a successful fundraiser that had a significant impact on our community. Our team worked diligently to plan and execute a Blanket Drive that not only brought our peers and community members together but also raised over [insert specific amount] for the children of Overtan Elementry
Through this experience, I honed my skills in project management, collaboration, and communication. I was actively involved in every stage of the process, from brainstorming creative ideas to coordinating logistics and promoting the event. Our collective efforts paid off, and the funds we raised made a tangible difference in the lives of those we aimed to support.
Depot Street Trash Cleanup
18 Hours Total: Over The School Year
As a committed member of the National Honor Society at Salisbury Academy, I actively participate in a monthly community service project that reflects our dedication to maintaining and improving our local environment. Each month, our team spends an hour and a half cleaning Depot Street, a central part of our community. This ongoing initiative allows us to contribute to the well-being and beauty of our town, making it a cleaner and more welcoming place for everyone.
Taking the initiative to improve our city's ongoing need showcases our dedication to making a tangible difference, qualities that align well with the values and expectations all should seek to achieve.
