In our everyday lives, argument is all around us, whether we are aware of it or not. During this course, I became a more active and educated participant in life. I sifted through the messages that surrounded me. I explored how the messages are delivered and how we receive the messages. I took some personal risks while doing this; it wasn't always easy to admit what influences us to be who we are.
Rarely is argument a case of “I am right, and you are wrong”; rather, it is a dialogue, sometimes intentional, other times subliminal, but most often argument is a case where an idea or opinion is asserted, and reasons are provided for support. This class stressed argumentation, critical reading, and research communicated through writing within an academic community and allowed the opportunity to see how argument fits into your life while giving you the skills necessary to advance your academic writing.
Over the coarse of the year I created miniture projects to dig deep and explain a subculture I was intrigued by. My goal was to aid the reader in understanding what this culture was and what it meant to be apart of it. This was done by creating a multi genre project
My project dove into the realm of FPS Gaming, where I attempted to correct many false understandings associated with FPS Gamers.

This course is an introduction to philosophy. Philosophy, literally the “love of wisdom,” can be practiced in many different ways. You’ll develop your own sense of how to practice philosophy in
this course and, perhaps, see that it may differ from the way that others do. In this course, we’ll understand different approaches to philosophical reasoning and apply these different approaches
to various philosophical questions or problems.

In this class, we learned many of the central theories of sociology and saw how they apply to a wide range of important issues both in our own lives and the world more broadly. In addition to reading about the theories of sociology, we conducted our own sociological work and began to see the world through a sociological lens. This will include activities as simple as reading a newspaper and thinking about our own experiences. By applying what we learn in this class to our everyday experiences we will gain a better appreciation for the theories we are studying.
