I took a class entitled Community Immersion. Through that class, I had the opportunity to meet with and learn from professionals from across the community in the for-profit, non-profit, and government sectors. This page includes my learning and reflections on some of the presenters I found most significant.
I had the opportunity to visit Robert Yates and gain insight into the systems involved in their processes. They showed us several different parts of a vehicle and described how each part connected to one another.
During my visit, I met Alan and Evan, both highly knowledgeable in the field. They explained how even a small issue in the system can trigger a series of backups, along with the safety measures in place to minimize errors throughout the process.
While studying systems I learned about county government and its role on our daily lives. I learned about several different responsibilities that the police must maintain and their rigorous training for uphold functional response plans.
Through this I got to meet Sheriff Travis Allen, a highly dedicated person who has been in law enforcement for over 30 years. He showed us how any situation can go south and the precautions that are set in place to ensure everyone's safety.
Municipal government is the local level of government responsible for managing city and town affairs. It plays a key role in providing everyday services such as public transportation, waste collection, water supply, emergency services, and local roads. It also oversees zoning, urban planning, and recreational facilities.
Through this, I met Joe Morris the head of Special Projects and a overseer of municipal government. He, along with others, taught us how essential their work is for addressing community needs and ensuring local development.
