Through my Art Immersion class, I developed multiple forms of creative expression as I learned alongside an array of professionals in the community. This page shows how I developed new, artistic ideas as well as interpreted, presented, and shared artistic work. This page also illustrates my understanding of how the arts convey meaning and my ability to connect artistic work with personal meaning and external context.

Pottery Unit
We learned are how to make pottery at water works in the pottery room. Brent Smith, a local potter, was our instructor and he guided everyone to make the own piece.

When we started the lesson we got chunks of clay and was shown how we would shape them. When we sat down to mold the clay we were instructed that we needed to use water to keep the clay flexible. This was a challenging task because it was a lot harder than it looked, it took a lot of attempts but once we shaped the clay and picked the color we wanted he did the rest and made them into pottery.
When we started the lesson we got chunks of clay and was shown how we would shape them. When we sat down to mold the clay we were instructed that we needed to use water to keep the clay flexible. This is the result of all the hard work, fails, and success of my labor in trying to make pottery. I am very proud of the results I produces and the resilience I have show with this work
The process of creating are pottery at first glance seems easy. But I struggled a lot to form it. I was able to be a creative problem solver and find new ways to make it work for me personal and that allowed me to create a piece that I was proud of. Even when I struggled and was on the verge of giving up a kept retrying and I was able to make it right.
Costume Design Unit
In this unit we learned how to design costumes at the Meroney Theater, with Executive Director Bradley Moore. We were each given a character in a short play to analyze. Using paper, colored pens, and our imagination, we drew a design for that character's costume. We then picked out fabric to fit our design.

Designing the costumes required many skills. I had to be a creative problem solver when I would run out of design or fabric. I would always use new ideas when they would come to my head and write them down on paper. When I would get stuck on the design I would look up examples to take from and add to my own work.

Photography
We learned from Anthony Johnson, an Apple Executive, who showed us all about settings and ways to take photos with an iPhone. Wayne Hinshaw, a retired chef photographer at the Salisbury Post, talked all about angles and lighting and to get the right effect takes a lot of practice and effort on both ends. John Stamp, the owner and photographer at studio 35, we learned about types of camera types of pictures better lighting and how to set up good equipment he showed us how to set up pictures to make them look nice and reflect light to are advantages.

The process I used to learn how to take good pictures was listening well and asking questions when I was confused then I would take that and trial and error myself until I got the outcome I wanted after some time I finally mad a result that satisfied me and allowed me to be proud of the work I accomplished.

The life skills I needed to use were being able to be a confident communicator talking to the instructor fluently and being able to ask questions when needed. I had to be a creative problem solver to fix the fact that I don't have 6 thousand dollar equipment, so I had to do the best I could with the equipment I had. Finally being a motivated student allowed me to push forward and succeed even when I felt like giving up on it because my photos were not turning out great but in the end, it all worked out for me.
