SMS ART

"Creativity takes courage." -Henri Matisse

Welcome! My name is Cote Witt, and I am the middle school art teacher at Saline Area Schools. This website will serve as a place to showcase student artwork, lesson plans, tutorials, and every day life in the art studio.

Teaching Philososphy

The general objective of art class is to explore various art media, such as drawing, printmaking, pottery, painting, and sculpture. All projects stress the use of the elements and principles of art. Some projects include; printmaking, sculpture, perspective drawings, graphite/grid enlargement drawing, positive/negative design, ceramics, pen, scratch board, mural paintings, and pointillism. My teaching philosophy revolves around incorporating as many different kinds of materials as possible. As well as including student choice into all of my lessons. One of my main goals as an art teacher is to assist my students in finding a creative outlet that they feel confident in.

Teaching Background

I am very excited to be teaching art for my fourth year at SMS. I spent my first five years of teaching art to 7th and 8th graders in Watertown, SD. I am a Michigan native that graduated from Deerfield High School. I attended Michigan State University for my degree in art education, and my concentration is in painting. I am very happy to be back in the mitten and working in the beautiful town of Saline! This year will truly be a great one as I look forward to celebrating the many talents our students possess and trying new ideas and lessons to showcase them.
