Program QualificationsÂ
Math, science and special education candidatesÂ
Bachelor's degree or enrolled in a BA+ credential program
CBEST and CSET (if applicable) requirement fulfilled
Prerequisite coursework completed (18 units)
Acceptance into CSUMB teacher preparation program in special education, math or science
Desire to teach in the Salinas Union High School District for at least 4 years
Local ties to the community is a priority, but not a must
Substitute Teacher Permit through SUHSD is required
Program Outline
One year part-time student teacher assignment in a mentor's classroom
Awarded a preliminary credential at the conclusion of the program
Gradual release teaching model
Pairs training for student teacher and master teacher
10 hours of mentor training for master teacher
Participation in district-sponsored professional development
Participation in school-wide meetings, including parent conferences
Monthly residency meetings with district New Teacher Support Specialist
Must be willing to work at least 4 years in the Salinas Union High School District

Financial Benefits
$40,000 stipend paid out in 10 monthly installments
