Sometimes things get rough in our life. Whether it's a struggle with academics, family, friends, or personal, the heavy feeling freezes us. Although it seems like there's no way out at the time, we know our way to overcome tough situations is only a short reach away.
When we feel overwhelmed, we...
Pause - Take six deep breaths in and notice the feeling in our body. Where do I feel it? How would I call this feeling?
Be resourceful - Know what support is available.
Reach out - It takes one phone call or email to start making things better
Know we are not alone - There are people waiting to support you and to be supported by you. We live together on this planet:-)
Reach out to your sensei or another adult you trust. If you know your classmate is struggling and can use some help, let us know as well.

We all have feelings all the time. Sometimes it's difficult to know what it is that we are feeling. A tool like the "Emotion Wheel" below may be helpful in identifying how you may be feeling. Which word best describes your feeling now? Next, can you locate the feeling in your body? Do you feel it in your stomach, head, or chest? Did you find it? Gently take a deep breath in to it for a minute or two. Well done:-)
In Japanese class, you will learn some of the most common feeling words to describe how you feel.
Try paying attention to your own breath here. Find a quiet place, put your headphones on, and follow the sound. Enjoy.
